On Thursday 2nd of August, Mr D Carrozza took the U16’s Futsal team to the State Futsal Championship at Penrith. Homebush Boys qualified for this championship by winning the Bankstown regional qualifier last term.

Homebush Boys were placed in a difficult group which consisted of Wollongong Performing Arts, Mamre Anglican School, Elderslie and St Johns Park. With 3 wins and one draw, Homebush finished equal first in the group with Mamre, however, were pushed down to second on goal average. This meant we had to play a top seeded team from another group in the quarter finals.

Throughout the group games the boys were struggling to play to their ability. However, this all changed during the quarter and semi-finals with the boys playing brilliantly in both games and coming out clear winners.

Onto the grand final and Homebush came up against Mamre Anglican School again. It was 0-0 at half time with the boys holding on. Things changed quickly after the break with our captain sent off and our goal keeper injured. Mamre were able to take advantage of this and score two quick goals. Unfortunately this was a hurdle too high for our boys who were fatiguing fast after a long day. The grand final ended 0-2 to Mamre with Homebush Boys finishing second in the state.

I would like to congratulate all the boys for their fantastic effort and commitment. Each boy represented the school with great pride and in true ‘Bushy Boys’ spirit. Well done!

Team: Dylan Chau (C), Anthony Kyriazis, Daehwan Shim, Gio Ko, Joshua Lazzaro, Lachlan Ming, James Wark and Rahim Kamara, Burakhan Kocaayan and Ryan Beasant.
