On Thursday 7th of June, Mr D Carrozza took the U16’s Futsal team to the Regional Futsal Championship at Bankstown. Every year Football NSW run the Schools Futsal Championships in different regions around the state. These regional tournaments are used as qualifiers for the State Futsal Championship.

Homebush Boys finished second in their group with 3 wins and 1 loss, meaning they had to play one of the top seeded school from another group in the quarter finals. However, this motivated the boys even more and they put in a dominant performance easily winning 7-2.

Next up was the semi-final and the boys were feeling confident. The game didn’t start well and Homebush were down 1-0 early in the game. Through hard work the boys replied with 3 quick goals, with the score remaining 3-1 until the last three minutes with Homebush conceding. This made for a very nervous last three minutes. However, the boys defended brilliantly and scored within the last minute to win 4-2. With this win Homebush made it to the grand final and qualifying for the state championships.

In the grand final Homebush played Bossely Park, a football school. The boys were tired from a long day, however, they were also very motivated. Homebush were clearly the better team throughout the grand final and ran out comfortable winners.

The State Futsal Championships is on Thursday 2 August at Penrith Sports Stadium.

I would like to thank all the boys for their effort and dedication throughout the tournament and during all the training sessions leading up to it.

Team: Dylan Chau (C), Anthony Kyriazis, Daehwan Shim, Gio Ko, Joshua Lazzaro, Lachlan Ming, James Wark and Rahim Kamara.
