This Term, all Year 7 students will be involved in reading and numeracy Best Start assessment.

Best Start is a NSW Department of Education on-line assessment available to support schools to assess and monitor student progress. This assessment supplements existing school practices to identify how students are performing in reading and numeracy, and assists schools to respond to student needs in these areas. It supplements the Year 7 NAPLAN tests, later this year.

This assessment is scheduled for Thursday 25th February (Week 5 of Term 1). Your support is requested to ensure that your son is present at school on that day.
In relation to the Best Start assessment, please note that:

  • students with special needs will receive the same level of support as they would normally receive in the classroom;
  • students are asked to bring headphones or earbuds which plug into a computer, to enable them to hear audio during the assessment (the school will also have a supply available, in the event that students cannot bring their own); and
  • no reports will be sent home to parents; however, parents are welcome to contact the school to discuss their sons’ results.
