On the 13th of June 2019, the Under 15’s Homebush Boys High School Bill Turner knockout travelled to Trinity Grammar Summer Hill to play in the 3rd round of the annual competition. This was the same fixture the Under 15s team played in last year’s competition. The team warmed up at the schools grounds and were ready for a battle.

The game did not start as planned as Trinity Grammar scored immediately off the kick-off. However, Homebush Boys did not let that goal deter them and continued with the game. As the half went on the swing in possession started to favour Homebush and our first chance rattled off the crossbar from an agonisingly close distance. The first half continued and once again a shot from a favourable position just went wide. However, through sheer persistence Homebush received a penalty which was taken and saved by the keeper. Nevertheless, a rebound finish by Ayouk Mow levelled the score.

The second half was quite opposite to the first half as a stalemate ensued. There were not many chances but a hard fought battle by both teams. As the second term came to an end, the golden goal period begun. Within the first five minutes both schools were level and were asked to drop off one player every five minutes during the extra time period. Our boys fought hard the whole game and demonstrated great discipline and professionalism, although it was not to be the day for the boys from Homebush as our opponents finished an opportunity just within the box.

It is heartbreaking to lose in the same manner two years in a row. Nonetheless, the students were amazing and proudly represented Homebush Boys High School in the outer community, parents and community members from Trinity Grammar applauded the manner of our students. This is football, sometimes it can end in delight and sometimes it can end in upsetting fashion. The real winner were the young gentleman representing our school, Homebush Boys.

Final Score: Trinity Grammar Summer Hill 2 – 1 Homebush Boys High School
