Since 2011 Homebush Boys High School has had a student magazine, though over the years it has changed. Initially it started under the name 'New Name Coming Soon', a little joke while we searched for an appropriate name that would reflect the unique character of our school (and it was also the title of the student portal for several years, I'm told). It was due to the persistent efforts of Thomas Goth-Towney, then in year 11, that the magazine got into publication and received this working title for its name.

In 2012 the magazine finally found a new name, with the guidance of then year 10 student Nour Hajar. Since then, it has been known as Beat Around The Bush.

The publication of the magazine has been somewhat erratic over the years, mainly due to the fact that it is compromised entirely of student written pieces. It relies heavily on student contributions. We have been assisted over the years when journalism runs as a sport option on Wednesdays, but currently this is not the case.

However, you don't need to be a professional writer to contribute. You don't need to do journalism to contribute. All you need is an idea. A drawing, a funny piece about something relevant to the student body. Photographs. Reflections on issues. Reviews on books, movies, phone apps, canteen food. Whatever you want! If you want to see your name in print, if you want to express your opinion, let me know in person or email me: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

I'm hoping to see more issues of the magazine soon!
