The Premiers Reading Challenge (PRC) is a long standing initiative that aims to encourage students, from kindergarten to Year 9, to read. It has encouraged countless students to value reading as a life-long activity both for enjoyment and personal development.

Students are able to now register online (https://online.det.nsw.edu.au/prc/home.html) using their DEC emails and passwords. Participants then read books from a list that is available on the website and/or books of their own choice. These books are then logged online and certified by teachers or parents. Students have up to late August to register the books they have read. Certificates are then awarded depending on how many books have been read and how many years each student has participated in the PRC.

Further, at Homebush Boys we have participatedng in another great incentive to further reward student effort and application. We have ‘The Battle of the Brains’ (BOTB), a quiz-type competition against Birrong Girls High School. This involves teams representing each school competing in a literacy quiz twice a year. These quizzes are held both at our school and at Birrong Girls. The winning teams win a shield for their school. Participants in the BOTB are chosen from the registered PRC students ONLY! Register, improve your reading and be involved in the BOTB.
